For the past few weeks Keith Evetts the Managing Editor at re:Virals has been allowing me to assist him. I am officially (or otherwise) the Assistant Editor, taking turns every other week to write this article. Now this has been a huge learning curve for me, but it is also a great way to have fun and learn more about haiku. I will be writing this week's page which will be a good work out for the brain, believe me! Here are a couple of links to pages that I have already written...
I am amazed really to be doing this, as I began writing haiku two years ago now, and my origin story is pretty wacky. I was walking down my road one day in early January and I was struck by the sight of a big fluffy white cloud. It actually reminded me of baked alaska and it was that for some reason that made me think I would like to write haiku. I know, eccentric. I have had an interest in haiku for a long time, I enjoy reading them, but I had never thought to write them. However, it just felt right, and so off I went. Admittedly they were not great to begin with, and some might say they still aren't! I am still learning, but I am definitely improving. So, imagine my surprise when I was asked to do this! I have participated in re:Virals for a year I think now, often writing commentaries as a way to develop my understanding and appreciation for haiku. There is nothing better than reading other people's and trying to work out why they are effective (or not). Keith has my sympathy, he knows so much, I am somewhere in the foothills of haiku knowledge, but its a great opportunity and I am lucky to be given the chance.
Watch this space then for more links and possibly discussion from this adventure.
