Sometimes as a poet you want to write something light, humorous and silly. This may go against the grain of what some people assume poetry to be - a seriously serious art form. I don't disagree that poetry is a means of expressing deep emotions arising from the human experience. Sometimes though you just need to be frivolous, playful even. Or I do. Plus it is good to make other people smile, don't you think?
Here then is a very silly poem about cheese...
A very cheesy poem
Soft, stretchy or creamy
Any cheese will do, oh
Yes! cheese is simply dreamy,
Cheddar, cheshire or red leicester,
Haloumi, mascarpone, mozzarella, brined and blue
Emmental, edam, babybel, ricotta,
Endlessly shape shifting from block to
String, grated and melt, cheese is de-lish,
Especially when garnished with pickle.
I hope this makes you laugh.
